High gas prices in Westchester, Rockland make backyard barbeques a good alternative

Skyrocketing gas prices and heavy holiday traffic are making backyard barbeques a better alternative than traveling for Westchester and Hudson Valley residents.

Traffic started building up early Friday on the Tappan Zee Bridge as many people headed to Rockland County for the Fourth of July weekend. However, gas prices in Westchester are about 20 cents a gallon higher than the national average. Many residents said they would be staying home in an effort to avoid the pinch at the pump.

Still, many do decide to travel this holiday weekend despite the high gas prices. Therefore, police say they will have more patrols on the roads looking for drunk drivers and motorists not wearing seat belts.
