Hundreds of mourners pay their respects to White Plains stabbing victim

? Family and friends gathered at St. Anthony?s Church Tuesday for the funeral of a White Plains woman killed inside the Galleria Mall garage.

Those who knew 56-year-old Connie Russo Carriero say her two boys and husband were her life. They also say she was the most genuine person they knew. Family members can?t understand why a woman who gave so much to others could die so violently. According to officials, this is one of the most heinous crimes White Plains has seen in years.

Police say Carriero was killed by level 3 sex offender Phillip Grant. He was charged with second-degree murder and weapon possession in the knife attack. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 25 years to life in prison. Police say the incident was a random act and Grant was just looking for a white woman to kill.

Mayor Joseph Delphino plans to sue the county since Grant and other sex offenders who stay at shelters in the county airport are transported into White Plains everyday.
