Forensic psychiatrist says Galleria Mall murder suspect may have been delusional

A forensic psychiatrist says the suspect in the Galleria Mall murder may have been delusional when he committed the crime.

Phillip Grant, a convicted rapist, confessed on videotape to fatally stabbing Connie Russo Carriero because she was a white woman. The 43-year-old claims he is a warrior in a racial war, and that he killed Carriero because she had blond hair and blue eyes. Grant also says racists have stalked him and denied him medical treatment.

Dr. Kathrynn Moss says Grant may be delusional and psychotic. However, she says Grant should be held accountable because he was aware of what he was doing.

Meanwhile, the county says it tried to give Grant a psychiatric evaluation while he was staying at a shelter, but he refused. County officials add they never denied Grant medical treatment.
