Police say ex-con in custody after shooting police trooper at Camp Smith

(07/15/05) CORTLANDT ? New York State Police Department officials say an ex-con shot a trooper Friday during a stolen car pursuit that ended at Camp Smith.

According to police, the incident began when law enforcement officials were investigating a stolen car report. After a pursuit, the suspect pulled into a residential driveway and fled into the woods. Authorities say an officer caught up with the individual in the woods and was shot by the man during a struggle.

Police were eventually able to apprehend the man after he fled from the scene of the shooting. The wounded officer was taken to Hudson Valley Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.
