Number of patients diagnosed with Legionnaires? disease rises to 19 in New Rochelle

The number of patients diagnosed with the potentially deadly Legionnaires? disease at a New Rochelle hospital has now climbed to 19.

Health officials say all 19 patients now diagnosed with Legionnaires? disease were exposed to mist from an outdoor cooling tower on the grounds of the Sound Shore Medical Center. Officials say the cooling tower, which tested positive for the bacteria that causes Legionnaires, has since been replaced.

Hospital officials say all the cases involve people with compromised immune systems. They add that three other patients are being monitored and tested for the disease.
