Yonkers family upset over dog?s death that occurred during police raid

A Yonkers family is upset over its dog?s death that occurred during a police raid Wednesday.

Authorities say they were searching for a mental patient who escaped from Saint Joseph?s Hospital. The search led them the home of the patient's mother on Grove Terrace. Yonkers police say officers asked someone to hold back the pit bull, but the dog lunged at the officer causing the shooting.

According to Yonkers police, the incident was a matter of the officer?s safety. They say the officer took necessary precautions. Officials also say the missing patient is still on the loose.
