Death of soldier from Westchester killed in Iraq remains a mystery

The death of a Marine from Westchester killed in Iraq remains a mystery.

Officials say Lance Corporal Efrain Sanchez, 26, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head in Ramadi, Iraq on Sunday. The military will only say Sanchez died in a non-hostile incident and the case is under investigation.

The family, who spent many years in Port Chester, is being told there are three likely options about what happened. The scenarios are that Sanchez either shot himself, was shot by someone else or was killed by a sniper. Sanchez?s wife said suicide is unlikely. She says she spoke to him days before his death and he was in good spirits. A funeral for Sanchez is planned for Saturday in Brooklyn.
