Soldier from Westchester who died in Iraq honored at funeral

Family and friends came to Brooklyn Saturday for a funeral to honor a soldier from Westchester who died in Iraq.

The family of Lance Corporal Efrain Sanchez still do not know the exact cause of his death. The military said 26-year-old Sanchez died from a gunshot wound to the head in a non-hostile incident in Ramadi, Iraq last Sunday. The Department of Defense is investigating the incident.

Sanchez had told his family that if something happened to him he wanted to be buried next to his grandmother at Cypress Hill Cemetery. The Port Chester native was described as a man with a huge heart. Despite the uncertainty concerning his death, Sanchez remained an inspiration to all who knew him.
