Couple arrested after Yonkers children apparently scalded to death in bathtub

Police have arrested the parents of two half brothers who died after being scalded in a bathtub Friday in Yonkers.

The father of one of the boys, 31-year-old David Maldonado, has been charged with second-degree manslaughter. Police have also filed charges of criminal possession of a weapon and drug possession against Maldonado. The children?s mother, 25-year-old Luz Arroyo, has been charged with criminally negligent homicide and drug possession.

Authorities say the boys, ages 1 and 2, were not breathing when paramedics responded to the apartment on Locust Hill Avenue. Yonkers police found one child had apparently drowned inside the apartment. The other was in the arms of his mother in the lobby. They were both pronounced dead at St. Joseph?s Medical Center.

Authorities say both children seemed to have suffered the effects of drowning and had been exposed to extremely hot water. Police officials say additional charges could be filed against Maldonado and Arroyo.
