Young boy dies on ride at Rye Playland

Officials say an unidentified 8-year-old Connecticut boy died on a ride at Rye Playland Wednesday afternoon.

Officials say the death occurred on Ye Old Mill, a boat-in-the-water amusement ride that is said to be tamer than many of the park?s rides. Police say the boy was found underneath a conveyer belt used to move the ride along. The cause of death was not immediately known. The park continued to stay open while police investigated the death.

In May 2004, a 7-year-old girl was killed on Playland?s Mind Scrambler ride. Investigators concluded the girl wriggled free of the restraints and fell.

Playland officials plan on opening the park as scheduled Thursday. However, the Ye Old Mill ride will remain closed until the investigation is complete.
