No mechanical failure found on Rye Playland ride where 7-year-old boy died

The Norwalk boy killed on an amusement park boat ride at Rye Playland has been identified as 7-year-old Jon Kely Cassara. Officials say no apparent mechanical failure was found on the ride and believe Cassara was not seated at the time of the incident. Police searched for an hour before finding Cassara's body in shallow water underneath a conveyer belt used to move the ride along. His mother called for help when he did not come out of the boat-in-the-dark amusement ride. Authorities say Cassara met the height requirements for Ye Old Mill, which was why he was allowed to go on the ride alone. The ride will remain closed until further notice.
