Families of public employees who are killed in Iraq will now have financial stability

Governor Pataki (R-NY) signed Patriot Plan Three into legislation Sunday, securing the financial future of the families of public employees.

Pataki says Patriot Plan Three is designed to recognize the sacrifices made by public employees who put on military uniforms. The inspiration for the legislation came from the death of New York City Fireman and New York National Guardsman Christian Engledrum. He died while serving in Iraq.

Patriot Three will now cover 700 public employees from New York State that are currently on active duty. The plan also calls for the state to purchase life insurance policies of up to $250,000 for members of the New York National Guard.
