Westchester talked to NY resident on board Space Shuttle Discovery

Eileen Collins will be more than just a spectator watching the landing of the Space Shuttle Discovery, the New York resident is an astronaut on board.

Before embarking on her mission, Collins said her primary motivation in training for this particular assignment was fueled by the Columbia disaster. Collins had several friends who lost their lives in the Columbia tragedy and said she wanted to fly for them. The three-time space veteran sits in the commanders seat onboard the Discovery and is eager to prove America?s space shuttle program successful.

The shuttle?s re-entry into Earth?s atmosphere will be the first since the Columbia disaster.
