St. Patrick's rector resigns in wake of sex scandal

Monsignor Eugene Clark, 79, has stepped down from his post as rector of St. Patrick?s Cathedral in the wake of allegations he carried on a long-term sexual affair with his married personal secretary.

Clark said he felt his resignation was in the archdiocese?s best interest, though both Clark and Laura DeFilippo, 46, deny the accusations.

Clark was named in divorce papers filed by DeFilippo?s husband, Philip, who claims that a private investigator taped his wife and the monsignor at a Long Island hotel. He also claims the couple?s teenage daughter was exposed to the relationship.
