Westchester DA Pirro likely to face primary for GOP nomination

(08/11/05) YONKERS - Two other Republican candidates for the U.S. Senate say they are not dropping out of the race just because Westchester District Attorney Jeanine Pirro threw her hat in the ring.

It is very likely Pirro will be facing a Republican primary next year. Former Yonkers Mayor John Spencer and Manhattan attorney John Cox, son-in-law of the late President Richard Nixon, joined Pirro in upstate New York Thursday courting Republicans leaders.

There may even be a Conservative primary as both Spencer and Cox will seek that party?s nomination as well. Spencer says he offers a contrast from Pirro and Democratic incumbent Senator Hillary Clinton, both of whom he labels as Liberals. Spencer will formally announce his candidacy next month.
