Yonkers City Council candidate withdraws from race after petition signature probe

A Yonkers City Council candidate withdrew from the race Monday after a probe into signatures on his nominating petitions.

Eulogio Santiago was going to face Democratic incumbent Councilwoman Sandy Annabi for the Second District council seat. However, he was in court after allegations that several signatures on his petition were forged. Several people, whose names appeared on petitions, testified that they never signed anything.

Santiago would not comment on the case or his withdrawal from the race. He could be facing fraud charges.

Annabi is now the sole Democrat on the ticket in November.
