Yonkers woman lucky to be alive after escaping devastating blaze

A Yonkers woman is lucky to be alive after a neighbor rescued her from her burning home Saturday.

Anna Terlecky, 79, says she was taking a nap when she awoke to the smell of smoke. She says she couldn?t find the phone, so ran to her window and yelled for help. Her neighbor, Joe Barros, quickly came to her rescue and got her out.

Fire officials were able to put the flames out quickly, but most of the home had been destroyed. Investigators believe the fire started in the kitchen and quickly spread. The cause has yet to be determined.
