Chemical spill forces evacuation of Mamaroneck High School

Firefighters and hazmat crews rushed to Mamaroneck High School Wednesday after workers were overcome by fumes from a chemical spill.

Several custodians and some teachers were getting ready for the new school year. When fire units responded, two workers were complaining of headaches and were treated at the scene. The school was evacuated as hazmat crews worked inside to determine the type of chemical that leaked.

Officials say the spill was contained to the high school. No evacuations of the surrounding apartments were required.
