Community tries to come to grips with murder of doctor from Somers

A community in northern Westchester is still trying to come to grips with the senseless murder of a prominent Long Island doctor who lived in Somers. Joseph Kazigo, 67, went missing last week. Over the weekend, his body was found in Lewisboro and his son, Mulumba Kazigo, has been charged with his murder. Mulumba pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder. Police say there was long-standing tension between the father and son, but they wouldn't go into detail. Some members of Kazigo's church say the incident may have stemmed from Mulumba?s strict upbringing. Investigators say they have a videotaped confession from Mulumba, 26, saying while at his father's Long Island apartment, he beat his father with a baseball bat, slit his throat, and dumped the body near the Muscoot Reservoir. Joseph Kazigo's body will be buried in Uganda. His funeral is set for Wednesday in New York City, the same day Mulumba Kazigo is due back in court. Related story
