Rye Playland hopes to reopen ride boy was killed on by Labor Day weekend

The ride at Rye Playland that a 7-year-old boy was killed on may be opened in time for Labor Day weekend.

State inspectors arrived Wednesday to check that all the mandated changes were made. The Ye Old Mill boat ride has been closed since John Kely Cassara, of Connecticut, died after falling through a gap in the ride when it was in motion.

A spokesperson for the park said it has complied with the mandated changes and has also added cameras and extra warning signs to the ride.
