Grand jury hands down indictments against 'scalding death' couple
(09/06/05) YONKERS ? A grand jury handed down indictments Tuesday against a couple accused in the scalding deaths of two young boys.
Luz Arroyo, the mother of both boys, has been charged with two counts of negligent homicide. The father of one of the boys, David Maldonado, has been charged with two counts of second-degree manslaughter. Authorities say the two were in a drug-induced stupor while the boys burned to death in a scalding bathtub.
An unidentified social worker has already been fired for not checking on the children frequently enough. If convicted, Maldonado could receive up to 15 years in jail. Arroyo faces up to four years behind bars.
