State senator proposes sex offender e-mail notification for county residents

State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx) announced a proposal Wednesday that would provide instant e-mail information on Level-3 sex offenders.

Residents in Yonkers were upset to find out a Level-3 sex offender is living in their neighborhood. They found out about the sex offender due to community alertness, online searches and a tip from Yonkers police. However, Klein says it shouldn't take that long.

Under the proposal, residents can register their e-mail address with the state and they would instantly be notified when a Level-3 sex offender move into their community.

A study released by Klein found that 22 Westchester County zip codes contain at least one Level-3 sex offender.
