Two Westchester men busted in E-ZPass scam in Rockland County

Two Westchester County men, who worked for a Rockland County computer company, have been charged with grand larceny, conspiracy and falsifying business records after police say they sold E-ZPass account information. Police say Peter Pianitis, of Yonkers, and Joseph Simmons, of Mount Vernon, worked for Affiliated Computer Services, a company that handles E-ZPass accounts. They say the men ran a network that stole account information from businesses such as FedEx and UPS and then sold it. Companies that noticed inconsistencies on their statements alerted police to the crime. Approximately $730,000 was stolen. Twenty arrests in the ring have been made so far and more are expected. Although mainly businesses were targeted, Rockland County District Attorney Michael Bongiorno?s office has requested that all E-ZPass customers check their accounts for errors and report any to E-ZPass.
