Fatal accident shuts down Tappan Zee Bridge

The Tappan Zee Bridge was closed in both directions Tuesday following a fiery crash where one person died.

Police say a tractor-trailer apparently hit a disabled car causing a fire that killed the driver of the car. One person was set afire and jumped into the Hudson River below and was rescued. A medivac helicopter was brought in to take one of the injured to the hospital.

Thousands of cars were stuck on both the Westchester and Rockland sides of the bridge.
