Convicted sex offender goes on trial for 1998 murder of Yonkers boy
Nearly seven years after a Yonkers boy was murdered, a convicted sex offender goes on trial for the crime.
Robert DeRosario is charged with kidnapping and murdering 12-year-old Orlandito Rosario Maldanado. Maldonado never returned after going to a store in Yonkers in 1998. His naked body was discovered in a wooded area in Dobbs Ferry two months later.
DeRosario is serving 10 years in state prison for sodomizing teenage boys. The prosecution claims DeRosario confessed to the crime behind bars. The defense, however, hinted there could be other suspects in the murder, including another neighborhood pedophile and even the boy?s father.
The boy?s father and brother are expected to be on the witness stand later in the week.
