Security breach at Kensico Dam becomes issue in county executive race

County Executive candidate Rob Astorino (R) called a meeting with police chiefs and Public Safety Commissioner Thomas Belfiore on Wednesday after someone from his campaign managed to breach security at the Kensico Dam area while videotaping the attempt. The photographer is seen on the tape approaching a delivery truck and then an entrance to a door at the base of the dam all while never being challenged by authorities. No police were present protecting the dam. This is the second time that Astorino has made the dam an issue during his campaign. On Tuesday, he claimed the current county administration has no emergency plan in place should security at the dam ever be breached. The New York City Department of Environmental Protection controls the dam and the reservoir behind it, but the area in front is county responsibility.
