Bizarre bank robbery in Peekskill

A bank robber made off with cash from the Wachovia Bank on South Street Wednesday, after giving tellers a note which said he had planted a bomb in the bank. Police and the county bomb squad quickly responded and as a precaution evacuated the bank and surrounding buildings. Members of the bomb squad entered the bank wearing protective clothing and destroyed the suspicious package left behind by the robber. It turned out the package contained only a radio and some rags. Police are looking into whether this case may be related to another bank robbery committed in Montrose earlier this week. Peekskill police ask anyone with information to please call the Peekskill Police Department at 737-8000.
