Formerly conjoined twin takes first step at Blythedale Hospital

A twin boy formerly joined at the head is now walking on his own at Blythedale Children's Hospital.

Clarence Aguirre took his first steps a month ago, and his brother Carl is expected to begin walking within a couple of months. Last year, doctors in the Bronx performed life-saving surgery to separate the toddlers who are originally from the Philippines. Since then, the children have undergone therapy at Blythedale. The twins' speech has lagged behind their mobility but they are using simple words.

There are years of therapy ahead for the boys but doctors hope that one day they will be able to leave the hospital and attend day programs at Blythedale. The boys still must have reconstructive surgery.
