Renewed calls to close Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant in Buchanan

There are renewed calls to close Indian Point Power Plant in Buchanan after one of the plant's nuclear reactors was shutdown.Reactor 3 was shutdown Saturday after a control rod fell into the machine a few days prior. The rod is one of that act to slow nuclear reactions in the reactor. Entergy, which owns Indian Point, says the public was never in danger from the malfunction. However, the Westchester Citizen's Awareness Network, a group opposed to the nuclear power plant, says the incident is reason to close the plant down for good. The control rod's failure will shut Indian Point 3 for a week so repairs can be made. Indian Point 2 currently remains on-line.
