Yonkers residents hold early Columbus Day celebration
Hundreds of residents in Yonkers turned out Sunday for an early Columbus Day celebration.South Broadway was the site of floats, marching bands, dancers and drums as the annual Columbus Day Parade made its way through downtown Yonkers. The parade ended two weeks of celebrations, which included concerts, ceremonies and a special Mass. The parade featured local police and fire departments as well as many groups from neighboring Westchester communities. Mayor Phil Amicone (R-Yonkers) says he was proud to have this parade represent so many cultures, including many local Italian Americans since Christopher Columbus was Italian.
