Police patrols in Westchester encourage safe driving

The number of fatal accidents on Interstate-684 has decreased from nine to five in the past year and police have attributed the lower number to an increase in patrols.

Police patrols were out in full force Columbus Day weekend to make sure drivers were obeying the 65 mph speed limit on I-684. Police have reported the average speed on the road to be between 75-80 mph.

The state Department of Transportation is participating in the fifth annual "Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day," a national event to encourage safe driving.
