Victim of deadly Yonkers hostage standoff laid to rest

Friends and family gathered in Yonkers Thursday to bid a final farewell to a woman held hostage and killed by her ex-boyfriend.

Carmela LaPuma, 53, was killed in her Yonkers home Friday night. According to police, Frank Rizzo, of New Rochelle, took her hostage for several hours, and demanded $60,000 for jewelry he'd bought her before shooting her twice in the chest with a shotgun.

LaPuma?s co-workers from School 29 in Yonkers were among the mourners at St. Ann's Church. The flag at the school was flown at half-staff in honor of LaPuma.
