Electricity restored in Yonkers after downed power lines sparked fire

After many Yonkers residents spent the night in darkness, the electricity was finally restored Friday morning.

Downed power lines sparked a fire in a building at the corner of Mclean and Park avenues Thursday. Firefighters worked over an hour to extinguish the flames but approximately 1,100 Con Edison customers lost power as a result of the downed power lines.

Con Edison crews worked overnight to repair the problem. Officials say the torrential rains and high winds could have caused the power lines to go down.
