Yonkers senior citizens arm themselves against the flu

Hundreds of senior citizens were out in Yonkers Friday to take advantage of free flu shots.

Westchester County secured supplies of the vaccine this year to ensure that seniors, people with chronic illnesses and health care workers were first on the receiving end. Last year, a contaminated supply of the vaccine left the U.S. with a shortage.

In addition to providing flu shots, the county plans to hold a number of health clinics where there will be informational resources and providers services so people can check their blood sugar or blood pressure. Shots will be more readily available at local doctors offices by the end of the month.
