Saw Mill Parkway closures frustrate motorists

Drivers on the Saw Mill River Parkway are tired of getting diverted to side roads due to flooding problems.

Since Wednesday, a portion of the parkway between Manville Road in Pleasantville and Marble Avenue in Thornwood has been shut down. The problem is a huge puddle that is four lanes wide and several inches deep. Drivers had to be diverted to local roads and try to get back on the parkway.

Pleasantville police say the detour is not just an inconvenience, it's a safety hazard. They say the local roads are getting clogged with traffic made worse by the bad weather. The state is in charge of maintaining the Saw Mill, but commuters say they have done nothing to help the problems of flooding.
