Spano, Schumer renew calls for improved airport security nationwide
Westchester County Executive Andy Spano and U.S. Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) are renewing calls for improved general aviation security at airports nationwide. At a press conference Sunday, Schumer called for the federal government to step up with more funding and more regulations for airports across the country. Spano says Westchester County Airport is only as safe as the airports that surround it.Airport security took center stage in Westchester in June when police say 21-year-old Philippe Patricio stole a plane from a Connecticut airport and flew around intoxicated before landing at the Westchester County Airport. Spano and Schumer say they fear that next time it may be a terrorist that lands at the airport.
Patricio has been charged with a number of crimes. If convicted he faces up to 7 years in prison.
