Former senator under fire for allegedly spending campaign contributions

Former Senator Guy Velella is in the spotlight once again, this time for allegedly spending thousands of dollars of campaign contributions.The money was given to an account called the Bronx County Republican Committee. News 12 Westchester has learned exclusively that the former state senator used it to pay for personal things like legal fees and donations to other candidates. Before Velella was sent to jail to serve time for bribery and conspiracy, he resigned from the committee but did not take his name off the bank account. Victor Tosi, who took over for Velella, says he was not able to access the account. The new chairman, Joseph Savino, also said he hasn?t seen the money.Velella says he raised the money while he was chairman and that it does not belong to the other party leaders.
