New Rochelle residents may soon see another taxi fare hike

Residents may soon have to cough up more cash to catch a cab in New Rochelle. The New Rochelle City Council is expected to decide on possible fare hike Wednesday.

Taxi drivers say the high cost of gas is killing their profits. In April, the City Council approved an increase in fares for the first time in five years. Now, the New Rochelle Taxi Association has requested another hike to pay for the cost of fuel. If approved, a one-mile ride would cost $5.

New Rochelle Mayor Tim Idoni says the council may require the fare to come back down if and when the price of gas drops.
