Police, security guards surround Mount Vernon football game instead of fans
Fears of gang violence forced unusual precautions at a Mount Vernon High School football game Friday. The traditional match up between Mount Vernon and New Rochelle high schools was moved from Saturday to Friday at 9 a.m. when other students and fans would not be able to attend. School authorities say they were afraid of possible retaliation after the shooting of a reputed Mount Vernon gang leader at a club in New Rochelle. While the coaches say they are just happy to play the game, many parents are upset about the decision to reschedule.
