Work resumes for Mount Vernon Public Library employees

Some employees at Mount Vernon Public Library are expected to return to work Monday after an eight week hiatus due to roof repairs and asbestos concerns.

Two months ago, the library was shut down after repairs were needed for a leaky roof. But last month, 33 employees were laid off while air quality testing was conducted and repair work continued.

The library's board of trustees voted to re-open the building on October 31 with a 56-hour work week.
