Verizon workers go on strike in Purchase and across NY

Hundreds of Verizon workers in Purchase and across the state went on strike Monday demanding better contracts.

As of midnight, the members of Union 1105 began protesting. The Verizon information service workers are demanding the company go back to the bargaining table and give them new contracts. The employees have been working without a contract since earlier this month. The workers service Verizon?s yellow pages business and say they bring in $75 million worth of advertisement revenues for the company.

The strike won?t hurt customers? phone or Internet service, but workers say it will hurt businesses that depend on yellow pages for advertising.
