Westchester sex offenders under careful watch on Halloween

Westchester sex offenders were kept under careful watch Halloween night during a mandatory meeting at the county?s probation office.

Forty-five sexual predators on probation were invited to attend an educational program on poor decision making and alcoholism. For those who opted not to attend, probation officers made a house call. The county probation office says the idea behind the safety initiative is to be proactive rather than reactive when it comes to keeping children safe.

County officials also say a special court is being created to deal specifically with sex offender cases. It will be up and running in January. Governor George Pataki (R-NY) has also released his own safety measure which requires all sex offenders on probation to stay confined in their homes between 3 p.m. and 6 a.m. Halloween night.
