Race for Westchester County clerk takes negative turn

Negative advertisements have surfaced in the typically low-key race for Westchester County clerk. The first shot in a television advertisement came from Eastchester Town Clerk and Republican candidate Linda Doherty. She claims that taxes have gone up in New Rochelle under her opponent Democratic candidate Tim Idoni. He claims Doherty is distorting his 14-year record as mayor of New Rochelle and says that by putting out negative ads, Doherty is trying to discourage voters. But Doherty says Westchester has over half a million voters and television is the best way to reach out to all of them.

The county clerk position is an open seat because county clerk Republican Leonard Spano is retiring.
