Tractor-trailer accident creates rush hour nightmare in Katonah

(11/03/05) KATONAH ? A chain-reaction accident involving a tractor-trailer closed down a part of I-684 and backed traffic up for miles during rush hour Thursday.

Police say the accident occurred at approximately 6 p.m. when a tractor-trailer jackknifed near Exit 6. According to investigators, the driver of the truck tried to avoid hitting another vehicle and lost control. A charter bus carrying 50 students then hit the tractor-trailer, and a 2000 Nissan Maxima hit the bus.

I-684 was closed between Exits 4 and 6 following the accident, causing a rush hour nightmare for commuters. The charter bus was transporting students from several districts back from an event. One student, the driver of the truck and the driver of the Maxima sustained only minor injures.
