Fear of another gang shooting grips New Rochelle H.S.

Police descended on New Rochelle High School Friday after rumors spread of an after-school shooting.

In the wake of the recent gang shooting that plagued New Rochelle the past few weeks, police did not want to take any chances at the high school. One student says the rumor was that gang members from Mount Vernon were going to shoot up the school. The rumors turned out to be just that, rumors. However, many students were shaken up. School officials permitted students who were frightened by the rumors to go home earlier.

There have been two shootings in the city in the past three weeks. On Halloween, Raymond Harris was fatally shot outside the Hartley Houses complex. Earlier in the month, Dashow Brown, believed to be the leader of the Bloods gang, was killed outside a nightclub. Many feel the two shootings are related. Residents in the community are calling for the violence to come to an end.
