Man plummets to his death down elevator shaft in Yonkers

A Peekskill man fell down an elevator shaft to his death down in an apartment building in Yonkers Friday.

Police say 28-year-old Ronald Rivers, of Peekskill, was playing around in the 12th floor hallway where he was visiting his cousin. Police say Rivers accidentally bumped into the closed elevator doors, which then opened. Rivers lost his footing and fell to the elevator car on the first floor.

Residents of the building say there have been ongoing problems with the elevators. Kone Elevator Services maintains the elevators in the building and says it is investigating the incident.
