Distraught woman rescued after attempting to jump from Yonkers bridge

A distraught woman was rescued Monday after attempting to jump from a Yonkers bridge.

Police say the middle-aged woman went to a footbridge over Nepperhan Avenue preparing to end her life. However, within minutes several officers from police headquarters less than 100 yards away flooded the area. Twenty-five minutes later Officer Piero Olchese was able to gain the woman?s confidence and pull her to safety.

The woman, whose name was not released, was not injured. She was taken to St. Joseph's Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation.
