Yonkers community leaders call for peace amid rash of gang violence

Community leaders and neighbors from Yonkers gathered together Saturday to send a message of peace to young people amid a rash of gang violence.

The Gang Prevention Youth Explosion held a community meeting inside the Yonkers Riverfront Library to offer teens alternatives to gangs. The group?s message was to stop the violence and choose life. The event was in response to the recent escalation of teen violence that has been taking place in Yonkers.

The event went beyond sending a positive message. Its purpose was to also showcase activities for young people to get involved in and keep them off the streets.
