Incumbent Yonkers City Council president concedes race

More than a week after Election Day, the incumbent Yonkers City Council president conceded the race to Democrat Chuck Lesnick.

Lesnick led Martinelli by 600 votes and a recount that was underway Wednesday upheld that lead. More than 300 voting machines from each election district were being recounted. More than 800 absentee and affidavit ballots in the race remain uncounted, but officials for both parties conceded they would not be enough to shift the race in Martinelli's favor.

Lesnick said he accepted Martinelli?s concession, but wanted the recount to continue to ensure all the votes were counted. Lesnick?s victory signals the first Democratic majority on the council in a decade.
