Mount Vernon H.S. placed on lockdown after day of violence

One student is under arrest after brawls forced Mount Vernon High School to go on lockdown Friday.

The school superintendent Brenda Smith says a fight started in the cafeteria, and then there were brawls in the halls and courtyard. Smith says there were at least four fights in all. School officials say the entire campus was closed down to ensure the students? safety.

School officials say no one was seriously hurt. One student has been arrested so far.School administrators say they are looking into whether the big brawls were gang related.
